Restoration work resumed in 2022 after a three-year break, with recent efforts concentrated on 758’s seating and the replacement of its many missing windows.
November 2023: 758’s newly powder-coated seat frames
December 2023: 758’s platform and saloon handrails restored with black powder-coating
July 2024: Two of the 26 seat backrest top rails all professionally re-polished
December 2024: Window panes replaced and fitted with new window rubbers
A major off-site project currently underway is the rebuilding and reupholstery of all 758’s seats by a specialist firm in Pickering. The lower saloon moquette fabric was specially woven for the BTA and we have purchased 12 hides of brown leather for the upper deck seats. The project began during 2024 and we expect it to be completed by the end of 2025.
